Revitalizing Alcossebre

Situated in the picturesque coastal town of Alcossebre, the Strategic Plan for Tourism Development, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, aims to invigorate tourism through innovative design interventions in small spaces and buildings.

Transforming the Promenade

One of the key interventions takes place along the esteemed Paseo Vista Alegre, a prominent thoroughfare along the promenade. The project endeavors to pedestrianize the street, replacing vehicular traffic with pedestrian-friendly spaces, while also modernizing the tourist office.

Elevating Local Tourism

The implementation of the Strategic Plan has sparked a series of targeted improvements throughout the village, redefining its aesthetic and bolstering local tourism. These enhancements have positioned Alcossebre as a premier destination, boasting a plethora of amenities such as restaurants and shops, with design as a central element of its urban and architectural renewal.

Celebrating Ceramic Heritage

Central to the initiative is the celebration of ceramic craftsmanship, a hallmark of the region’s identity. By utilizing ceramic as the primary material, the project not only promotes tourism but also supports the thriving ceramic industry in the Castellón region, aligning with broader social objectives.

Innovative Ceramic Applications

The project showcases the versatility of ceramic through three distinct applications:

  1. Technical Porcelain Pavement: Utilizing technical porcelain pavement from Urbatek, in various sizes and finishes, the promenade receives a contemporary facelift, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
  2. Mediterranean-Inspired Lattice: Drawing inspiration from traditional Mediterranean architecture, a white glazed ceramic lattice envelops the tourist office, creating semi-transparent walls that filter light and enhance thermal comfort.
  3. Coverlam Porcelain Slab: Coverlam, a laminated porcelain slab, serves as a rainscreen over the tourism office. Its innovative surface treatment, H&C Tiles, not only improves aesthetics but also purifies the air by eliminating harmful pollutants.

Through these innovative ceramic applications and strategic interventions, the Strategic Plan for Tourism Development in Alcossebre emerges as a beacon of sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and architectural excellence.
