Nestled in the northwest corner of a high-rise office building, Lieu Painting Studio benefits from ample north-facing light and stunning sunset views. The traditional framed core structure defines the space, with imposing columns contrasting against the lower ceiling adorned with aluminous gusset plates. Embracing this architectural tension, the design focuses on three key elements: the column, the ceiling, and the floor. Existing columns are reimagined and integrated with storage functions, enhancing the studio’s spatial dynamics.
Embracing Circularity
Responding to diverse functional requirements, the main space features circular motifs, harnessing the centripetal and centrifugal qualities of the shape to foster interaction and creativity. Visitors can engage with artists, participate in discussions, or find quiet corners for solitary creation. Two looping tracks for hanging paintings and curtains offer flexibility for various scenarios, adding versatility to the studio’s layout.
Spatial Continuity and Visual Expansion
Ancillary areas are seamlessly integrated to guide visitors into the studio. Mirrors strategically placed on shelves extend the visual expanse, creating an illusion of spaciousness. Fixed cabinets delineate private zones while maintaining visual connectivity with the painting area, ensuring a cohesive flow throughout the space.
