Introduction

FROD Apartment marks the transformation of a flat in the heart of Madrid by mome.estudio. The project was tasked with two primary objectives: maximizing natural light throughout the apartment and restoring its original charm.

Restoration and Character

The project prioritized the restoration of pre-existing materials hidden beneath layers of previous interventions. Elements such as brick pilasters, metal beams, and pillars were uncovered and restored to harmonize with new materials like polished concrete flooring and plastered walls. This blend of old and new creates a space that reflects the personality of its inhabitants while celebrating the beauty of imperfection and craftsmanship.

Light Redirection

Situated on the first floor with limited access to natural light due to a fragmented layout and a small inner courtyard, the apartment faced illumination challenges. To address this, the project introduced a strategically placed mirrored wall to bounce and redistribute natural light from both east and west directions. Additionally, artificial lighting solutions were tailored to meet the diverse needs of the space, enhancing its functionality and ambiance.

Conclusion

FROD Apartment emerges as a revitalized urban space in Madrid, seamlessly blending restoration with modern functionality. By harnessing natural light and preserving original elements, mome.estudio has transformed the apartment into a luminous and character-filled living environment, reflecting the vibrancy of its location in the city center.
