Introduction
Situated amidst the bustling ambiance of downtown Shibuya, the Blue Bottle Coffee Shibuya Cafe serves as an urban retreat nestled between two parks. Designed by Keiji Ashizawa Design, this cafe marks the second collaboration between the studio and Blue Bottle Coffee.
Seamless Integration of Interior and Exterior
Upon entering the cafe through Kitaya park, patrons are greeted by a striking curved tile counter surrounding the kitchen area. These tiles, featuring a unique volcanic ash glaze, serve as a bridge between the interior and exterior spaces. Developed in collaboration with London-based manufacturer Dzek and design studio Formafantasma, over 7000 tiles were meticulously laid by a skilled artisan, adding to the cafe’s ambiance.
Thoughtful Interior Design
The ground floor features tables of varying heights, including a high counter with stools for customers to observe the barista at work and lower tables for those wishing to enjoy the park view from inside.
Versatile Seating Options
Ascending to the second floor, patrons discover a range of seating options tailored to diverse preferences. A lowered floor area with banquette seating, upholstered in an inviting autumnal orange textile, offers a cozy retreat, while an oval dining table fosters a communal atmosphere. At the rear, a high counter table provides solitude for individuals or small groups, while a lounge area with comfortable sofas invites relaxation.
Culinary Experience
Beyond the traditional coffee and food offerings, the Blue Bottle Coffee Shibuya Cafe extends its menu to include appetizers and natural wines in the evening. The warm and inviting atmosphere aims to evoke the feeling of visiting a close friend’s welcoming abode.
Conclusion
With its seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces, thoughtful design elements, and versatile seating options, the Blue Bottle Coffee Shibuya Cafe offers patrons a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling cityscape of Shibuya.
