Tara Boettger, known as @justcallmehomegirl, embarked on a mission to infuse modernity into her home’s facade, starting with a rather unassuming element—the front door. Recognizing the potential for transformation, Tara sought to redefine the character of her entrance without an extensive overhaul. Her vision was to retain the existing door while introducing contemporary elements to elevate its aesthetic appeal.
The Mundane to the Striking
Tara initiated the project with a door that was, in her own words, “boring, white, [and] dirty.” The conventional oval-shaped ornate door lite, a common feature in traditional homes, didn’t resonate with Tara’s style. Seeking a change that aligned more closely with her preferences, she decided against a complete door replacement and instead opted for a makeover that would bring in more light and align with the modern design of her raised ranch/split entry house.
Precision in Transformation
To achieve the desired outcome, Tara chose a 24″ x 50″ glass kit, a pivotal component in the contemporary transformation. Undertaking the task with meticulous care, she employed a jigsaw to make precise incisions into the door. Tara emphasizes the importance of precision in measurements, acknowledging the nerve-wracking process of ensuring accuracy. Collaborating with her father, the duo utilized a metal-cutting blade to guarantee clean cuts while avoiding the simultaneous cutting of both sides.
Seamless Integration and Stylish Flourish
With the cutting phase completed, Tara seamlessly integrated the new paned glass kit into the door. The next step involved an artistic touch—she painted the door in Valspar’s Chimney Smoke, a deep charcoal hue that added a layer of sophistication. The result was a harmonious blend of modern panache and functional brilliance.
Aesthetic Satisfaction and Curb Appeal
Tara Boettger expresses her delight with the final outcome, emphasizing the door’s allure both from the exterior and interior perspectives. The enhanced influx of light into the entryway aligns seamlessly with her vision. A keen observer will also note Tara’s additional effort to enhance curb appeal—she painted the ranch’s brick exterior, contributing to the overall transformation.
In this subtle yet impactful project, Tara demonstrates the art of revitalizing an essential element of the home, proving that a modern aesthetic can be achieved without parting ways with the familiar. For homeowners seeking inspiration, Tara’s creative journey serves as a testament to the potential within every doorstep for a stylish metamorphosis.
