Booooooom is excited to announce its collaboration with the Capture Photography Festival for the fourth consecutive year. As Western Canada’s premier lens-based art festival, Capture brings together a diverse range of photographic talent from around the world. In partnership with Capture, Booooooom will curate a public art installation to adorn the Olympic Village Canada Line Train Station in Vancouver.
Calling All Lens-Based Artists
This open call invites photographers and artists working with lens-based media to submit their work for consideration. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or an emerging talent, this is your chance to showcase your creativity on a public platform.
The Opportunity
The selected artist will have the honor of being featured in the 10th annual Capture Photography Festival, scheduled to take place from April 1st to April 30th, 2023. Additionally, their artwork will be prominently displayed at the Olympic Village Canada Line Station from April to August 2023. The chosen artist will also be featured in the 2023 Capture Catalogue and on both the Capture and Booooooom websites. As a gesture of appreciation for their contribution, the selected artist will receive a fee of $665 CAD, adhering to standard CARFAC fees for temporary public artworks in Canada.
Artwork Specifications
The chosen artwork will be installed on the large windows at the front of the Olympic Village Canada Line Station. Each panel measures 31″ x 94″, with 1.5″ vertical gaps between sections. Artists have the option to display one large image across all panels or a series of images. Please note that images depicting people cannot be publicly displayed, in accordance with InTransitBC Public Art Installation Policy.
Submission Details
Artists may submit a single work or a related series of works. Multiple submissions are allowed, but each entry must maintain thematic coherence. Non-members are welcome to submit entries for a fee of $10 USD per submission. However, Booooooom members and Capture members can submit entries free of charge.
Selection Process
All entries will undergo initial review by Jeff Hamada, Editor-in-Chief of Booooooom, to create a shortlist. This shortlist will then be evaluated by a jury consisting of members from both the Capture Photography Festival and Booooooom. The finalist will be announced in November.
